A Professor in Finance and Entrepreneurship, Professor Daniel Agyapong says government must restore confidence in citizens by being transparent about the current state of the economy and the strategies being adopted to solve them.
He said this when done will help citizens understand and comply with some difficult decisions government may make in a bid to solve issues of the economy.
Citing some examples to back his suggestions with ATLFMNEWS ahead of the finance minister’s appearance in parliament on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, he said “for instance yes it is time, for instance, to have paid ex-gratia among others, could we have negotiated with people who are supposed to benefit from these funds and say that look this is our current condition, could we hold on with such payment for a while as we try to channel such funds into certain pressing areas”.
Prof Agyapong who is also a coordinator at the University of Cape Coast School of Business believes government must take such steps in other to spend on more pressing matters.
He added saying “so that when we begin to make the gains, we would be able to appease the people involved.
Some public anticipations ahead of the finance minister’s appearance in parliament today
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to appear before Parliament today in the forenoon to answer some questions bothering the economy, the intended construction of the National Cathedral, and the government’s expenditure of COVID-19 funds.
The appearance of Mr. Ken Ofori Atta in parliament is anticipated to address all matters which have been of concern to the general public.
Ahead of his appearance before parliament, some residents in Cape Coast told ATLFMNEWS their main expectation is how government can reduce the hardship in the country.
One man said “mine will be the public sector and worker’s salary; I think it should be increased relating to the number of times fuel has been increased. They should increase salaries to complement that because the system has become so difficult to live in.”
Another lady also said “something should be done about taxes and importation of goods. The prices of goods that have been increasing rapidly in Ghana can be minimized. Am expecting something positive to come out after the finance minister appears in parliament.
