A data collection exercise for the creation of a single national household register has been scheduled to commence in the Central Region first week of July.
This was revealed by The Head of the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR), a subsidiary of the Ministry of gender, children and social intervention, Dr. Richard Adjetey during a consensus building workshop organized by the Ghana National Household Registry, on the premises of the Central Regional Coordinating Council.
He notes that once the register is developed, it will link both poor and vulnerable persons to social interventions such as the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP), the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) among others.
Dr. Adjetey further explained that, “this data is very important because once we want to identify a beneficiary for a social intervention approach, we must be able to scope or go indebt to have certain information that you require to design your program parameters”.
The workshop, which brought together a number of stakeholders in the Central region, was part of the Ghana National Household Registry’s (GNHR) effort to raise awareness about the data gathering exercise and to seek collective cooperation from key stakeholders such as Directors of government institutions, Heads of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and political heads.

In, 2020, the Ghana National Household Registry commenced the data collection activities in the northern, north east, upper west, upper east and the savannah regions. This data exercise is part of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPNSP) being implemented by government with the support of the World Bank and the Department for International Development (DFID).
