The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Komenda-Edina-Aguafo-Abrem (KEEA), Mr. Solomon Ebo Appiah has bemoaned an upsurge in what he describes as “Sakawa” in the Municipality.
He noted that “when I took office, the attitude of “Sakawa” was becoming very worrisome for government, the traditional council and the assembly. Sometimes you will see them on the road in a convoy…doing Champaign party and they cause traffic on the road…”
According to him, school aged youth prefer engaging in fraudulent and bad practices with the aim of making money rather than focusing on their education.
Speaking at Abrem-Essiam in the KEEA Municipality where he cut a sod for the commencement of a three-unit classroom block for A.M.E Zion Junior High School, he revealed that “just a couple of weeks ago six of them were arrested and put before the court for dangerous driving and driving without license” and he says they were fined.

He adds that although with the support of his Municipal Police Commander and the BNI those involved in “Sakawa” have been clamped down, stakeholders, especially the Christian council, the traditional council, the Ghana National Association of Teachers as well as parents, among others should assist in curbing such a menace.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ebo Appiah commends the traditional council for the good work they are doing in ensuring that KEEA becomes “Sakawa” free.
Open defecation
Mr. Ebo Appiah further asked indigenes of Abrem-Essiam to put in their maximum best to mitigate the incidence of open defecation which he says pollutes the environment and triggers serious health challenges and diseases.
He appealed to them to make it a point to put up toilet facilities in their homes.
He adds that they should make keeping their surroundings clean a priority so that the town can become the neatest in the Central Region.
