Two poachers were apprehended by Mole National Park rangers in the Savannah Region for allegedly poaching and killing a buffalo in the park.
Mumin Baharu and Osman Ibrahim, nicknamed Vuga, are claimed to have committed the crime on Saturday, April 9.
According to reports, the rangers were on usual patrol in the park when they heard numerous gunshots and hurried to the site.
When they arrived, they discovered that the poachers, who numbered around four, had killed the buffalo, dismembered the body, and were preparing to distribute the meat among themselves.

Mr Bona Kyiire, Assistant Manager of the Mole National Park, confirmed the event to the Daily Graphic, saying the suspects had been turned over to police and would be processed for court after investigations.
He stated that after identifying the suspects’ activities, the rangers tactically positioned themselves and managed to apprehend two of them, while the other two escaped.
He stated that the suspects had been stripped of a single-barrel gun used to kill the animal.
Poaching activities
The most serious threat to the Mole National Park has been poaching. Poachers target elephants, buffalos, and antelopes for the area’s lucrative Chinese market.
Mr Kyiire expressed concern about the increased incidences of poaching surrounding the reserve and stated that the administration has put tough measures in place to assist safeguard the park’s wildlife.
“It is not a good sign when people want to destroy the wonderful creatures God has given us; it doesn’t help the course of wildlife preservation.
Such crimes go against all of us, so we want to see stiffer punishment of people who engage in such acts to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.
