The University of Cape Coast (UCC), the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), and Cenpower Operations and Services Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to grant practical learning experiences to students of the two universities.
At a brief ceremony held at the CCTU to seal the deal among the three institutions, Registrar of CCTU, Dr. Francis Akronu, in his welcome address said that the creation of industrial relations between academia and industry was crucial to the overall fulfillment of programme accreditation requirements. He further underscored the need to create a balance in theoretical and practical learning to holistically train students for the world of work.
Head of Finance at Cenpower, Samuel Brew Butler, said the company aligns with the vision of government to employ science education to propel Ghana’s industrialization through measures aimed at improving the coordination of the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). In this regard, he indicated that the signing of the MoU was geared towards realizing the vision of strengthening the relationship between academia and industry and further empowering students who will benefit from the partnership.
Led by the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Prof. Sarah Darkwa, the team from UCC was enthused about the opportunities such affiliations afford students. She noted that for UCC, management has remained passionate about sharpening the entrepreneurial skills of its students and therefore sees the MoU as a step in the right direction.
The Vice-Chancellor of CCTU, Rev. Prof. Ing. Joshua Danso Owusu Sekyere, on his part said the MoU sets the pace for enhancing the practical aspect of the training of students of the University. He said for CCTU, on-hand training stands fundamental hence, he was grateful for the alliance being built between the school and Cenpower.
Cenpower is a power-generating Ghanaian Company that envisages building an economically viable thermal power plant and supplying electricity to the Electricity Company of Ghana in a safe, reliable, and environmentally sustainable manner.
