The Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Coast has held its 9th roll call ceremony inducting 114 new students into various levels in the faculty with a call on them to act professionally in all their endeavours.
This year, 70 post-WASSCE Students were admitted into level 100, while 44 Post-First-Degree students were admitted into level 200 respectively.
Addressing the students, Immediate Past President of Ghana Bar Association, Mr. Anthony Forson Jnr, indicated that while students are on their way to becoming lawyers, they must act professionally in everything they do.
According to him, the profession is governed by ethical rules, statutes, and expectations from public for them to exhibit a certain level of decency in their speech and in their dealings with people.
He, therefore, urged the inductees to think before they speak, stating that the profession is regarded as a noble one that everyone admires and respects.
“Luckily for your generation, technology has come to your aid and now you have law reports and legal materials on your mobile phones and tablets so you can research. So I always tell young lawyers that you are supposed to do much better than our generation,” he said
On his part, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Obeng Mireku congratulated all the new inductees on their decision to study in the faculty at a time when the university has been recognized as the best in Ghana, West Africa, and Africa as well as during the University’s 60th anniversary.
“And so you are the 60th inductees of the faculty of law. You have safely arrived at the best destination for quality legal education” he emphasized.
Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rosemond Boohene urged the students to broaden their horizons and not limit themselves to the university program they are studying.
She urged all students to take advantage of the University’s upcoming Design Thinking hub, which will help sharpen students’ entrepreneurial skills.
She also advised them to take cognizance of the dynamic world and be creative to look into the future to know what the law profession will look like.
Also at the 9th roll call ceremony, some students who had performed exceptionally also received some awards at the end of the event.
