The 42-year-old driver captured in a viral video assaulting a woman in Cape Coast has been identified as the ex-boyfriend of the victim.
The DOVVSU unit of the police service in Cape Coast said the victim, whose name has been given as Josephine Benerita was attacked and beaten by her ex-boyfriend Godwin Bayor a.k.a Yaw without any reasonable cause.
In the video, the suspect, Godwin Baylor, a driver at Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in Cape Coast, was seen physically assaulting the woman alleged to be a sex worker.
Both were seen in a heated argument, with the woman lamenting on the assault by the man, whom she said had refused to pay her after patronizing her services.
The woman who had blood oozing from bruises on her face was seen holding tightly to the shirt of the man during the argument.
According to the Central Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on the night of 6th March, however, the victim lodged a complaint of the assault to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Cape Coast on Sunday, March 13, 2022.
Suspect Godwin Baylor was subsequently arrested by the Police and currently assisting in investigations.
