The local planning committee of the 65th Independence celebration to be commemorated in Cape Coast has on Sunday, February 27, 2022, held a Christian prayer and thanksgiving service. This formed part of local events slated to be held ahead of the main event on March 6.
The service which occurred at the St. Francis De Sales Cathedral in Cape Coast saw in attendance the Regional Minister, the Mayor of Cape Coast, heads of various Security Agencies, traditional leaders, and members of the clergy.
Special prayers were said for the country, its leaders, and for the upcoming celebrations.
Central Regional Minister, Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, while speaking to the press raised concern over the poor participation of residents in outlined programs leading to the main celebration.
She explained that the general public did not show up for a scheduled clean-up exercise last Friday as well as a health walk on Saturday. This, she explained, is not encouraging considering the fact that the national program is being held in the Cape Coast Metropolis.
“It is for us and we all need to come on board to support this. From Now till 6th March, there will be a lot of programmes running, so we should all come together to celebrate this as our theme is saying; we are working together and bouncing back better” Mrs. Assan emphasized.
Subsequent programmes to be observed as part of the activity lineup for the 65th Independence Day Celebration include the 28th February Christiansburg Crossroad Shooting, National Flag Hoisting Day,” and Wear Ghana Day. Others include; Anniversary Debate, Central Regional Industrialization Drive Forum, Believe in Ghana Concert among others.
