President Akufo Addo says government is working at enhancing the human capital in the various Zongo communities to create equal opportunities for all.
He has therefore admonished the Muslim community to take advantage of the many opportunities’ government has made available especially in the area of education.
“I urge you to ponder on the first set of the Quran to be revealed to the Prophet Mohammed; ‘Read in the name of your Lord who created, who taught man by the pen, taught man what he did not know. I thus continue to admonish you to take your children to school, let us take advantage of the free senior high school programme and the educational intervention the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development is making in Zongo communities to educate our children both male and females and ensure that within this generation”
The President was addressing the Muslim community through a virtual platform as part of activities to climax this year’s Eid-ul Fitr celebrations.
He said education “can eradicate poverty, illiteracy and even disease from our country”.
He noted that although the task to create an all-inclusive society is a huge one, government is not relenting on its efforts to accomplish it.
“The Zongo Development Fund, under the direction of the energetic Minister for Inner city and Zongo Develoment, Mr. Mustapha Hameed is pursuing an aggressive development agenda set out in government’s economic and socio development agenda”, he said.
The Fund is expected to support the provision of critical infrastructure in education and training, health and sanitation, local businesses and centres of culture, as well as improve security in the Zongo communities.

It is also expected to leverage its seed fund to attract additional funding form international partners, private sector institutions, civil society organizations, and other non-governmental organisations.
On his part, the National Chief Imam, Shiekh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu commended the president for appointing a legal luminary of a Zongo background as a justice of the Supreme Court.
For him, although Justice Issifu Imoro Tanko Amadu was chosen on merit, his appointment will be an inspiration to many Muslim youth to pursue higher education.
The Chief Imam also commended government for the Covid-19 Directive protocols despite its disruption of the usual Eid ul Fitr celebrations.

Speaking through his spokeperson, Sheik Aremeyaw Shaibu, he said “we are confident that in spite of the Covid 19 restrictions on social gathering, we are confident that the quality of our fasting in this month has not been diminished. We have maintained the quality.” He added
He therefore encouraged the president to forge ahead with measure necessary to contain or curb the spread of the virus.
The annual observance of Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. It is the ninth month on the Islamic calendar observed by all Muslims by fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad.
This year’s, celebration was far from normal as the novel coronavirus pandemic with it associated restriction stole most part of the beautiful aspects away. The usual pomp and pageantry that accompanies each year’s celebrations was be missing as celebrations were marked with simple family gatherings.
