The Deputy Central Regional Director in charge of Public health at the Ghana Health Service Dr. Godfred Kwabena Sarpong has expressed displeasure in the declining level of compliance to the Covid 19 protocols among residents within the region.
According to him, even though the government and the Ghana health service have made significant improvement in the fight against the virus, the non-adherence to protocols on the part of residents could undermine their efforts.
Speaking on the ATLANTIC WAVE yesterday Dr. Sarpong indicated the service is working with the various district assemblies to improve compliance and advised the general public not to let their guard down and continue observing the safety protocols
“We are not very happy with the complying of protocols. A lot of people are simply not wearing the face mask. Many more people are not observing the social distancing and we see congesting and overcrowding in some enclosed spaces, lecture halls, churches, mosques, supermarkets and public transports.”
“We are working with District Assembly through our committee of District Public Health Emergency Management to make sure that we set up a team that will work with the District, Municipal and Metropolitan stakeholders to make sure we improve on our compliance with the safety protocols,” he disclosed.
Reacting to the second dose of vaccination underway in the Awutu Senya West and Awutu Senya East in the Central Region, Dr. Sarpong entreated persons who qualify for the dose within the two Districts to complete the vaccination to build a strong immunity to protect them from the high mortality associated with COVID-19.
“The second shot of the COVID-19 vaccine is very important and should not be joked with because when you take it, your level of protection against the infection is increased and improved significantly,” he said.
