As Ghana’s Para Powerlifting squad wins gold medals at the 2021 Para Powerlifting World Cup in Manchester, United Kingdom, Mr. Mustapha Ussif, Minister of Youth and Sports, has vowed to lavishly award them.
Mr. Ussif rendered the pledge during a courtesy call before the team’s flight to Manchester on Monday, March 22 to compete in the meet, which also acts as qualification for the postponed 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
He vowed that the athletes will be rewarded with gold medals when they returned to the government, and that this would act as inspiration for the disabled athletes to do better for the country.
Mr. Ussif expressed trust in the team’s ability to qualify for the Paralympic Games and encouraged them to do the country proud when they travel to Manchester.
“I am sure that you will be able to compete in the Paralympic Games in Japan. Keep us proud, and I am certain you all apply. We’re rooting for you to excel. You will be honoured with gold medals when you return home, and this will act as inspiration for the abled athletes to do much more for Ghana, ” he added.

The President of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, Mr. Samson Deen, expressed gratitude to the Minister for his assistance and promised that the squad will return with medals.
He urged Ghanaians to provide the squad their full help in order for them to succeed at the Para Powerlifting World Cup.
Ghana will be represented by four competitors, one male and one female, as well as two other representatives, at the global tournament, which will be attended by 106 nations.
