President Akufo-Addo will deliver a State of the Nation Address in Parliament later today, Tuesday, 9 March 2021 as is his constitutional duty.
Giving a similar speech on January 5 to mark the end of his first term, the President is scheduled today at 1pm to address parliament.
After winning the presidential election on December 7, 2020, this address will mark the start of his second term.
The first State of the Nation Address of the Eighth Congress will be delivered today.
The State of the Nation’s Address today will be the first address of the Eighth Parliament. It will be in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution, which requires the President to present the address to Parliament at the start of each session and before its dissolution.
President Akufo-Addo will provide a preview of his plans for his second term in office, after his victory in the 2020 general elections. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the roll-out of the country’s vaccination program, it is expected to cover areas of national development such as security, economy, agriculture, environment, education, and, in particular, health.
