The Union of African Journalists (UAJ) has officially opened its 63rd training course in Cairo, bringing together media professionals from across the continent to foster shared understanding and build lasting institutional networks.
The 3-week training course is being held in honour of veteran journalist Mahfouz El-Ansary and in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Participants were drawn from 15 African Countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Senegal, Rwanda among others with host country, Egypt also in participation.
In his address at the inauguration on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Mohamed Faiz Farahat, Chairman of the Union of African Journalists and the Al-Ahram Foundation, emphasized that gathering journalists from across the continent allows participants to share information, experiences, and build a shared consciousness about global and continental affairs.
He said the participants represent a very distinguished elite from their countries, hence the need for them to share their ideas and information.
“Just to know each other is very important, to share our experiences is very important, to go back to your countries with real perception, real understanding of what is happening in our countries. I think this is very, very enough and very important,” he continued.
Established in 1974, UAJ has been engaging journalists across Africa to foster strong bond and shared information towards the development of the continent.
Mohamed Faiz Farahat expressed hope that the organizers will continue expanding the programme’s reach in future sessions to include representatives from even more African nations, further bridging the gap across the continent’s media landscape.
Distinguished guests at the opening ceremony included UAJ Secretary-General Dr. Samia Abbas, SCMR Director General of Media Training Amal Abdel-Motaleb, Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy, broadcaster Maher Abdel Aziz, media professional Ayman Adly, and UAJ Training Director Zeinab Helmy.
Curriculum for the three-week training course combines academic lectures, professional workshops, field visits to major Egyptian media houses, and cultural excursions.
