Joana Krah, a 29-year-old woman detained recently in Takoradi, Western Region, for allegedly faking her kidnapping, will be sentenced on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
On Friday, October 22, 2021, she admitted to fabricating her kidnapping in order to collect GH5,000 from a relative.
Ms. Joana has been charged with the deception of a public officer and the dissemination of false information.
On Monday, October 25, 2021, she was arraigned before Takoradi Habour Circuit Court A, which was presided over by his honor Michael Kwodjoe Ampoadu.
Although earlier police investigations suggested that defendant Joana Krah colluded with two other suspects–Susan Awortwe and Francis Eshun–to stage her kidnapping, the other two were not charged.
According to the police, Joana Krah planned with the two others to stage her kidnapping, after which a call was made to her godfather demanding the ransom.
Joana went to the Takoradi Central Police Station on Saturday, October 23, to confess after learning that her godfather had reported her to the police and that an extensive search for her had begun.
She said she was only joking with her godfather about being abducted.
Susan Awortwe and Francis Eshun were arrested for their cooperation as a result of police investigations.
