Field Of Gold, who narrowly missed out in the 2000 Guineas under Kieran Shoemark, has shown his class with two consecutive wins under Juddmonte’s retained rider Colin Keane. However, with Keane currently serving a suspension due to whip rule violations, Juddmonte and the Gosdens needed to find a reliable replacement for Goodwood. Barry Mahon, Juddmonte’s European racing manager, confirmed that William Buick, who was already on their shortlist, has now committed to the ride, expressing confidence in Buick’s abilities, especially after his previous Group One success with Kalpana for the team last October.
Strong Juddmonte Team Heading to Goodwood
Field Of Gold will not be the only Juddmonte runner at Goodwood, as stablemates Cosmic Year and Jonquil are also set to compete during the festival. Cosmic Year, trained by Harry Charlton, finished second to Field Of Gold in the Irish 2,000 Guineas but struggled in the Prix Jean Prat. He is now likely to contest the Thoroughbred Stakes over a mile. Meanwhile, Jonquil, trained by Andrew Balding, who previously won the Greenham Stakes, is expected to run in the Lennox Stakes over seven furlongs after finding six furlongs too sharp in the Commonwealth Cup.
Lead Artist Unlikely to Compete
While Field Of Gold’s stablemate Lead Artist holds an entry for the Sussex Stakes, it is unlikely he will run against him at Goodwood. Barry Mahon indicated that Lead Artist will probably be held back for a different target, avoiding a clash with Field Of Gold in the same race, although final plans for him are still under consideration.
