The University of Cape Coast (UCC) School of Business (SoB) has officially launched its 50th anniversary celebrations, marking five decades of delivering top-tier business education and contributing to national and global development.
Established in 1975, the School of Business has evolved into one of West Africa’s most respected centres for academic excellence in business and leadership.
The golden jubilee is being celebrated under the theme:
“University of Cape Coast School of Business @ 50: Expanding the Frontiers of Business Excellence.”
The outgoing Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Professor Kwame Osei-Kwarteng delivered the Chairperson’s address on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. He expressed deep pride in the School’s accomplishments and the far-reaching impact of its faculty and graduates in both local and international corporate spaces.
According to him, products from the School of Business are spread everywhere, shaping corporate decisions, national and international policies and working assiduously to make this world a better place.
Prof. Osei Kwarteng mentioned that “In the corporate world, in politics and globally, I have received unique testimonies on the performance of the products of the School of Business.”
He therefore believes the theme for the anniversary ‘Expanding the Frontiers of Business Excellence’ is timely and appropriate given your school’s achievements and the numerous challenges confronting the universe.
He emphasized that “When businesses excel, societies get better.”

In a welcome address at the launch, the Acting Dean of the School of Business, Professor Samuel Kwaku Agyei traced the School’s journey from modest beginnings to a thriving institution producing high-performing graduates and thought leaders.
He credited the School’s success to the dedication of faculty, administrative staff, alumni, and the various boards that have guided its strategic direction over the years.
“So, at 50 the UCC School of Business may consider itself as a fulfilled institution, because of the cutting-edge, world-class programmes that we run, coupled with seasoned faculty that can compete with any world-class business school.”
“We have achieved this feat through the dedication, hard work and commitment of past boards, faculty, alumni, administrative staff, and other supporting staff,” he continued.

A former Minister for Finance and now Economic Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Seth Terkper urged students to embrace integrity, seize every opportunity, and prepare themselves for national service and leadership roles.
Looking into the future, Mr. Terkper challenged the School to make consistent efforts to develop holistically.
“The next 50 years, must be shaped by a school of business that is globally engaged, digitally empowered, ethically grounded, and I emphasize ethics, and socially impactful. May the school of business, University of Cape Coast, continue to soar from strength to strength and from vision to victory,” he said.

The 50th anniversary celebrations will include public lectures, alumni events, a business clinic for small and medium scale businesses (SMEs) and an exhibition of scholarly works by staff — all aimed at deepening the School’s legacy of excellence and engagement.
