The Red Devils haven’t been doing great in their home games, so the Europa League seemed like their best shot at winning something and getting into European competitions. They won 5-2 overall after beating Real Sociedad 4-1 in the second game at Old Trafford.
Fernandes Shines in United’s Big Win
Real Sociedad got ahead first with a penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal, but Fernandes kept his cool and scored two penalties himself before getting his hat-trick after Jon Aramburu got a red card. Diogo Dalot finished things off, getting United into the quarter-finals against Lyon.
Amorim was full of praise for Fernandes, talking about how much he helps the team. “He’s always there when we need him,” the United boss said. “He’s great at free kicks, can switch positions, move the ball, score, and help out on defense. He’s the perfect captain, and we need to help him win titles because he deserves it.” Amorim Praises Man Utd Star’s Sportsmanship.
Good Vibes Before Next Games
United’s good game cheered everyone up at Old Trafford before their next match against Leicester. Amorim said he could feel the fans’ excitement and how the win gave the team confidence.
“You can feel the fans, the noise…it’s hard to explain,” he said. “This competition gives us a lot of energy and belief as we get ready for our league games. This week was different—we got through a lot, and this win was great for the whole club.”
Even with the win, United still has some injury problems as they head to Leicester, where Patrick Dorgu will miss his last domestic game because he’s suspended.
Dorgu’s Honesty and Amorim’s View
Dorgu was important against Sociedad, winning a penalty, getting a player a red card, and even telling the ref that a late challenge on him wasn’t a foul, which changed the ref’s mind.
When asked about Dorgu’s honesty, Amorim laughed and said, “It depends. It was the right thing to do, and I’m happy with him. But I don’t know if I’d feel the same if we were losing. Still, he played well, got better as the game went on, and is getting used to our league.” Amorim Praises Man Utd Star’s Sportsmanship.
Real Sociedad’s Coach Not Happy
While United was celebrating, Real Sociedad’s coach, Imanol Alguacil, wasn’t happy with the ref’s calls.
“We didn’t deserve that kind of officiating,” Alguacil said. “Neither did this game or this stadium.”
Now that United is moving on, they’re going to try to keep the momentum going in the Premier League while also trying to win the Europa League.
