A security operation by the Upper West Regional Police Command has foiled the illegal movement of 50,000 rounds of ammunition through an unapproved route near Wa, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
The operation, carried out on Monday, June 29, resulted in the interception of a commercial vehicle transporting 200 boxes of AA cartridges concealed beneath other goods.
Police say the seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal ammunition movement and strengthen security across the region.
Three Suspects Arrested
The suspects, identified as Alhassan Issahaku, Iddrisu Mashood and Alhaji Issahaku, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
According to the Police, efforts are underway to establish the origin of the ammunition and identify other individuals connected to the operation.
Investigators are also working to determine the intended destination of the shipment.

Investigation Intensifies
In a statement issued on July 1, the Upper West Regional Police Command said investigations remain ongoing as officers pursue additional leads linked to the case.
The Command indicated that further arrests could follow as inquiries continue.
