Crazy Goals
Martin Ødegaard scored twice, and Jurrien Timber, Ethan Nwaneri, Mikel Merino, Leandro Trossard, and Riccardo Calafiori all got one each. It was Arsenal’s biggest away win ever in the Champions League, beating their 5-1 victory against Inter Milan back in 2003.
Before this game, Arsenal had been struggling to score. They didn’t score in three of their last four games, and their chances of winning the Premier League took a hit after losing 1-0 to West Ham and drawing 0-0 with Nottingham Forest, leaving them 13 points behind Liverpool. But against PSV, they played great.
Arteta: I Knew It!
When asked if he expected the score to be so high, Arteta smiled and said, I knew it was coming. Then he got real about how weird football is, saying, No one could have seen that coming. That’s what makes football great. You work hard, stay grounded, and keep trying to get better.
The Arsenal boss said his team was amazing. Tonight, we were great. We earned this win, and I’m happy about it. The score was unbelievable.
Dominated from the Start
Even though they didn’t have a striker, Arsenal took charge early. Timber scored first in the 18th minute. Youngster Ethan Nwaneri and Mikel Merino made it even better before halftime.
PSV got one back with Noa Lang’s penalty, but Arsenal bounced right back. Just a minute into the second half, Ødegaard made it 4-1, and Trossard scored to make it 5-1 right after. Ødegaard scored again with 17 minutes left, and Calafiori finished it off late in the game.
A Statement Win in Europe
This big win was Arsenal’s way of saying, forget our recent struggles. Arteta knows the win was important, but he’s keeping his eye on the prize :
It’s cool to be part of something historic, but we want more. We want to go further, and we’re in a good spot to do that. We still have work to do when back in London though
Next Up: Man U, PSV a Done Deal
Now that they’re pretty much in the quarter-finals, Arsenal is going to focus on Monday’s game against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The second game against PSV doesn’t really matter anymore. It’s at the Emirates Stadium next Wednesday.
Arsenal is feeling good after this huge win, and Arteta wants them to keep the momentum going in their next games. Record-Breaking Gunners Delight Arteta.
