Spurs Grab Fourth Place and Move On in the Europa League
Tottenham Hotspur ended up in fourth place in the Europa League. This means they skip the playoffs and head straight to the last 16. Coach Ange Postecoglou’s decision to trust the younger players paid off. Academy kids Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi, and Mikey Moore got their first senior goals in a 3-0 win over Elfsborg.
Before the match, Spurs knew that just a draw could keep them safe in the top eight. But Postecoglou saw two surprise players step up to grab a big win.

Scarlett Scores on His Comeback
Dane Scarlett recently returned from a loan at Oxford United. He made an impact right away. Coming on in the second half for his 18th game with Spurs, he scored just four minutes later. He headed in a great cross from Dejan Kulusevski.
Ajayi then made his mark, scoring six minutes before the end. The 18-year-old had a fantastic senior debut, moving inside and passing with Scarlett before hitting a perfect shot into the goal.
The night got even better when Moore scored a third goal in stoppage time. He raced past his defender and shot confidently, becoming the club’s fourth-youngest goal scorer.
Changes from Postecoglou
Postecoglou made three changes to the squad after Spurs lost to Leicester. Micky van de Ven started for the first time in a while after his injury, and Moore also got a spot in the lineup.
Moore was active early, charging down the right, but Son Heung-min missed the chance to score from his cross. Son later showed skill by beating Simon Hedlund but couldn’t convert the resulting free-kick.
New player Lucas Bergvall had some jitters playing against Swedish opponents. He made a few mistakes, and Postecoglou told him to settle down a bit. Despite that, Spurs kept the ball and both Pedro Porro and Pape Sarr tested Elfsborg’s goalie, Isak Pettersson.
Halftime Changes and More Injuries
With their next game against Brentford coming up, Postecoglou made three subs at halftime, pulling out Van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Son. Elfsborg finally got a good chance when Jalal Abdullai shot over the bar after a deflection.
Spurs pressed on, and Bergvall forced Pettersson to make a diving save. But Spurs faced another injury when Radu Dragusin, who came in for Van de Ven, landed awkwardly on his knee. Despite trying to keep playing, he had to come off.
Scarlett came on in the 66th minute for his first match since May, and he quickly made an impact. His strong header broke the deadlock, setting the stage for goals from Ajayi and Moore.

This win not only secured Spurs’ place in the last 16 but also showcased their young talent. Scarlett, Ajayi, and Moore took their chance to shine, highlighting the strength of Spurs’ academy.
Even though Postecoglou will worry about Dragusin’s injury, the strong play from the young players is a big plus as Spurs get ready for the next part of their European season.
