Changes to Black Stars’ Coaching Staff
On Tuesday, the GFA announced a major shake-up in the Black Stars’ coaching staff. They hope these moves will strengthen the team and give them a fresh start. However, Samuel Anim Addo has doubts about Schaffer, calling him inactive.
In a chat with Kessben FM, Addo questioned Schaffer’s place in today’s football scene. He pointed out that Schaffer hasn’t managed a team in a while. Addo reminded everyone that the GFA wanted a modern coaching team. He mentioned Ameenu Shadow as a good addition due to his fresh ideas. “What’s Schaffer’s age, and when did he last manage a team?” Addo asked. He thinks Schaffer might not be the right choice for the Black Stars now.
Need for Younger Coaches
Addo went on to criticize the decision to let go of Professor Mintah. He wondered why the GFA didn’t pick someone younger who understands today’s football better. He compared this to Otto Addo, who, despite not meeting all the criteria, was made head coach of the Black Stars. Addo feels that they should have taken a similar approach when picking a new technical advisor – someone younger who can lead the team forward.
More Changes in the Team
Winfried Anton Schaffer is a seasoned German coach known for leading Cameroon to the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2002. He will work closely with head coach Otto Addo in his new role. Despite Addo’s concerns, Schaffer has a lot of experience that could help shape the team.
Along with Schaffer’s appointment, there are other shifts in the coaching team. Desmond Offei, the U20 team coach, is now an assistant coach for the senior team, taking over from Joseph Laumann. He’ll work with current assistants John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda.
Now, the Black Stars have a sports psychologist named Kris Perquy. With 17 years of experience, he will help the team with their mental preparation. They also brought on video analyst Gregory De Grauwe, who has worked with clubs in Belgium. His insights will add value to the coaching staff.
