Chelsea Star Mykhailo Mudryk Fails Drug Test
Chelsea has announced that midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk failed a drug test after a routine urine sample showed some issues. The club is now working with the necessary people to figure out what’s next for the player, who joined Chelsea in January 2023.

Club’s Statement and FA Involvement
The club said the Football Association (FA) reached out about the test results. In its official statement, Chelsea made it clear that Mudryk did not intentionally take any banned substances. They said:
“Both the club and Mudryk support The FA’s testing program. Our players, including him, are regularly tested. Mudryk insists he has never knowingly used banned substances. He and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to find out what led to this result. We won’t comment further.”
Mudryk’s Personal Response
In a post on Instagram, Mudryk shared his surprise over the results and denied any wrongdoing:
“I’m shocked by this. I’ve never knowingly used banned substances or broken any rules. I’m working with my team to understand how this happened. I know I did nothing wrong and hope to get back on the pitch soon. I can’t say more right now due to the ongoing process, but I will update once I can.”
Mudryk’s Recent Absence
The 23-year-old hasn’t played for Chelsea since November 28. He was part of the squad for Sunday’s win against Aston Villa but didn’t get on the field. The coach, Enzo Maresca, had said earlier that Mudryk missed games due to being unwell.
Potential Consequences
Failing a drug test can lead to a ban of up to four years, which would be tough for Mudryk. Since his £89 million move from Shakhtar Donetsk last January, he has found it hard to be a regular starter in the Premier League.
This situation adds to Mudryk’s challenges as he tries to find his rhythm at Chelsea.
