The Central Regional Health Directorate has launched a measles-rubella and vitamin A immunization campaign aimed at protecting children aged between nine months to 5 years.
The campaign will run from Wednesday, October 2, to Sunday, October 6, 2024.
The Directorate is therefore calling on all parents and guardians to ensure that their young children take part in this life-saving exercise.
The Central Regional Health Directorate’s measles immunization exercise is expected to cover over 450, 000 children across the region, as part of the ongoing national effort to eradicate the disease.
With measles remaining one of the most contagious yet preventable diseases, the Directorate stresses the importance of this immunization campaign for children under five years of age.
Speaking at a sensitization briefing for the media in the region and to launch the campaign under the theme: Measles and rubella kill: vaccinate your child now for good life, Dr. Jojo Cobbinah, Deputy Director of Public Health at the Regional Health Directorate indicated that measles continues to be a serious public health concern, especially among young children adding that the vaccination exercise is aimed at ensuring that no child between the ages of nine and 59 months is left vulnerable.
He noted that before the second quarter of 2023, 7 measles cases were recorded in Upper Denkyira East and 3 cases in Asikuma Odoben Brakwa.
He therefore urged parents and caregivers to visit the designated health centers and outreach stations across the region to have their children immunized for free.
He said during the five-day campaign, vaccination teams will be stationed at hospitals, clinics, and mobile health units across all districts in the Central Region.
