The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is taking a firm stand against the Electoral Commission (EC) with an initiative aimed at addressing irregularities and ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam in the Central Region, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced plans to recall Parliament to demand an audit of the voter’s register for the 2024 elections.
Dr. Forson voiced serious concerns about alleged tampering with the voter’s register during a nationwide demonstration by the NDC in Accra, noting that “the party cannot ignore the discrepancies, citing significant irregularities in his constituency, including 3,000 additional names in the transfer register and numerous instances of duplicate names.”
Dr. Forson emphasized, “The level of tampering we’ve observed so far makes it impossible to proceed without a proper review. This audit will help us understand the extent of the issue and fix the system.”
The NDC’s call for an audit is rooted in its commitment to maintaining peace during the election thereby urging the EC to act swiftly and transparently, warning that the party is prepared to take further measures if their concerns are not addressed.
Dr. Ato Forson also reminded Ghanaians of their crucial role in holding the EC accountable, stating, “The most important person is the Ghanaian voter. We want to make sure that on election day, everyone can vote and that every vote counts.”
This development follows former President John Mahama’s confirmation of the NDC’s September 17 demonstration to press for a voter’s register audit, highlighting rising tensions ahead of the 2024 elections.
