A former Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Livingstone Sam Amoah has reiterated the need to relook the “winner takes all” kind of governance political parties practice in the country.
Over the years it has become a practicing norm that governments who win power appoint only their sympathizers or card bearing members to man the affairs of the nation.
On his turn on ATL FM’s Leadership Dialogue segment on Wednesday, Prof Sam Amoah indicated that such an approach of governance deprives the nation of taping into the skills of people who have the requisite expertise to develop the nation.

“In our country what I’m always sad about is the political division; there is a sense in which we should look at the “winner takes all” issue. Are we saying that if one government comes to power the opposition and anyone who doesn’t belong to the ruling party doesn’t have anything to contribute to the success of the country?” he quizzed
In this vain, he advised that moving forward governments should be receptive to all individuals genuinely willing to serve this country.
He was hopeful that any government that comes into power would widen the scope of appointment of people, which should not be necessarily people from the ruling party.
“There is the argument of loyalty, that is important but can’t we see people who are genuinely objective and interested in their country and therefore give them the opportunity to serve,” he added.
Professor Sam Amoah on the other hand called on the citizenry to criticize and praise leaders constructively and objectively regardless of their political connection.
“As a Christian I take the admonishing from the bible that we should be praying for our leaders, encouraging them and ensuring that they do the right thing. Appreciate those that are doing well and also calling out those who are not doing well.”
He said this can help shape the crop of leadership in the country ,”there should be a raising of leaders who are objective so that gradually there will be leaders at all levels, who are hardworking and yet they are carrying people along.”
