Afrobeats musician Camidoh from Ghana has advocated for the music industry to take a comprehensive strategy in compensating musicians for their contributions.
The “Sugarcane” hitmaker claimed that the unbalanced royalties system now in place for musicians shows a lack of equality and justice.
“Let us all see it in the system that this is the money you are making but not make a call to one person to come for three million Ghana cedis and another to come for two million Ghana cedis. Let’s not do it like that. We should have a system that works for artiste,” he said on The Afternoon Show on TV3, June 19.
Camidoh argued that South African musicians might choose not to tour abroad and still make enough money to invest in their craft, drawing a comparison between South Africa’s and Ghana’s music industries.
He claims that the music industry in Ghana is not given the respect and importance it merits.

“I think that they do not really see the value that the music industry offers, if they see it, they will push for it. Because even in Nigeria, they understand that the music industry contributes very much to their GDP so they ease things for the artiste and people invest in music more,” he added.
The “Sugarcane” crooner said to Godwin Namboh and Anita Akuffo of the Afternoon Show on Wednesday that going through heartbreak gave him more time to be with his family, particularly his mother.
He claimed that after going through counseling and getting a lot of advise from friends to help him deal with the painful experience, he is still grappling with the matter.
