British actor Bernard Hill, 79, passed away on Sunday. He was most known for his supporting parts in the “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. His agent made this announcement.
In addition to receiving an Oscar for his performance as Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 epic romance “Titanic,” he became well-known for his portrayal as Theoden, King of Rohan, in two of Peter Jackson’s three “The Lord of the Rings” films.

In the wee hours of Sunday, British media outlets received confirmation of his death from his agent Lou Coulson.
Bernard Hill made his television debut in the highly regarded 1982 drama “Boys from the Blackstuff” on the BBC. The show was a multi-award winner and is today regarded as one of the best dramas of its time.
In the second season of the modern BBC drama “The Responder,” starring Martin Freeman, he will make a comeback to television. The show premieres in the UK later on Sunday.
