Charles Osei Asibey, president of the Africa Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), has turned down an offer to join Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 Campaign Manifesto Sub-committee on Youth and Sports.
In the upcoming 2024 campaign, Asibey had been appointed to the sub-committee by the Vice President of Ghana.
Osei Asibey clarified his decision to decline the offer in a statement released on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He emphasized the significance of upholding a neutral and apolitical position in his existing roles within the sporting community.
As the leader of international sports organizations and the General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Asibey emphasized the dedication to fair play and neutrality in the worldwide sports community.
Mr. Osei Asibey, renowned for his commitment to sports development and advocacy, has chosen to abstain from joining the campaign sub-committee to uphold his nonpartisan position. Remaining neutral and impartial is crucial in his current positions within the sporting community.

Osei Asibey, also serving as the vice president of the World Armwrestling Federation, expressed his dedication to the progress of Ghana. He highlighted the importance of maintaining neutrality by avoiding affiliations with any political party.
Following statements made by musician Okyeame Kwame, it was revealed that he had not been formally approached to join the sub-committee for Tourism, Arts, and Culture. This shift mirrors a pattern where people are focusing on remaining neutral and steering clear of political ties, particularly in positions related to leading and representing in sports and culture.
The sub-committee for Youth and Sports features former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan as the chair, along with National Sports Authority boss Professor Peter Twumasi and Ghana Football Association Executive Council Member Gifty Oware-Mensah. Hon. Mustapha Ussif, the Minister for Youth and Sports, acts as the Advisor for the sub-committee.
