During the holiday season, the Rwandan government has loosened regulations on the operation of bars, nightclubs, and other entertainment venues.
In an effort to reduce “noise pollution” and public disruption, the authorities placed limitations on all “non-essential services” in September.
Owners of hotels, restaurants, and nightclubs objected to the shortened opening hours that entertainment enterprises were forced to operate under.

However, the state-run Rwanda Development Board has since announced that bars may remain open until 2:00 (local time) on December 15–17, with restrictions lifted on Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays.
The board released a statement on Thursday stating, “The end of the year festive season has begun, and the government of Rwanda wants people to celebrate and enjoy.”
It also said that private events are subject to the new rules.
The board did, however, issue a warning against breaking the law, stating that businesses must abide by the noise pollution regulations.
The September announcements set a limit of 55 decibels for nighttime sound levels in commercial zones.
