The Black Stars’ head coach, Chris Hughton, claims that the outcome of their previous matchup with Comoros will not affect their performance in today’s [November 21] match at the OmniSports Stadium in Moroni as part of the continuing 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Hughton’s claim follows the conclusion of the most recent encounter between the two nations, in which Ghana was eliminated from the 2021 AFCON, which was hosted in Cameroon, after losing 3-2 to Comoros in the championship group.
”We have big respect for Comoros, they are a good team, but the results in the past have no significance.
It’s about the present, not the past.
I think as a football nation, they have come a long way, they have made very big steps and i congratulate them on that.
For now our preparations are not for the World Cup or the AFCON but it is for the game against Comoros. It is one game at a time.”
Hughton reaffirmed the team’s aim to defeat Comoros in the pregame press conference and further indicated the team’s preparedness to secure all three points.

With a victory over Comoros in their second group matchup against the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, the Black Stars of Ghana might lead Group I.
Hughton’s team enters the match with three points from their opening group match at Baba Yara Sports Stadium against Madagascar.
The two nations will encounter for the fourth time; their most recent meeting took place during the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
This is the second occasion that the Black Stars will play Comoros in the FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament.
Under former coach Avram Grant, the opening leg of the 2015 FIFA World Cup qualifiers was held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Ghana drew out a goalless draw in Moroni and defeated Comoros by a score of two goals to zero in Kumasi.
