The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is urging Ghanaians to adhere to the directives in the upcoming voter registration exercise.
In a statement ahead of the registration on September 12, the EC gave a stern warning to unqualified persons to ensure they do not flaunt the directives.
Scheduled to start on Tuesday, 12th September 2023, and conclude on Monday, 2nd October 2023, the registration process will take place at all 268 District Offices of the Electoral Commission.
EC emphasized that those who turned 18 since the last registration exercise and those who missed the opportunity to register in 2020 should visit the District Office where they reside.
To register, they will need to present either their Ghana Card or Ghana Passport as identification documents.
In cases where eligible applicants do not possess the mentioned identification documents, two registered voters are required to vouch for them.
These guarantors will play a pivotal role in guaranteeing the registration of their fellow citizens.
The Electoral Commission sternly highlighted that attempting to register as a non-Ghanaian (foreigner) or as a minor (below 18 years old) is considered a criminal offence.
Both the individuals attempting to register and those who vouch for them will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The guarantors are also to follow the legally mandated limit of guaranteeing a maximum of ten (10) persons.
Any individuals who exceed this limit will be subjected to legal prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission encouraged all eligible applicants to register and exercise their right to vote in the upcoming District Level Elections.
The commission further urged the general public to support the 2023 Voters Registration.
