In response to the unexpected reorganization of the National Democratic Congress‘ (NDC) parliamentary leadership, some of the party’s supporters in Tamale, in the Northern Region, have gathered at the regional office of the party.

In response to the unexpected reorganization of the National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary leadership, some of the party’s supporters in Tamale, in the Northern Region, have gathered at the regional office of the party.

Martina Bugri, the regional correspondent for JoyNews, reports that some supporters claim the decision won’t augur well for the party. They demand that the party’s leadership reverse its choice or face their fury.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson succeeds Haruna Iddrisu as the minority leader, and Ellembelle MP Kofi Armah Boah takes James Klutse Avedzi’s place as the deputy minority leader, according to a brief statement from the party on Tuesday.

In a statement signed by NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, Kwame Agbodza becomes the Chief Whip for the opposition side and will be deputised by Banda MP, Ahmed Ibrahim and Ada legislator, Comfort Doyo Ghansah respectively.

Haruna Iddrisu, the former minority leader, and Muntaka Mubarak, the chief whip, have been in parliament for almost 20 years. As a result, the Tamale Central MP opposes their removal because he thinks the party is only appointing inexperienced legislators to run the Minority Caucus.

Before making such a decision, the party, according to him, should have consulted the leadership in Parliament.

“The timing is completely wrong. What is the basis of changing our parliamentary leadership?”, Murtala Mohammed decried.

“They are only taking away the most experienced leaders and bringing the less experienced ones. Nobody told them we are dissatisfied with the leadership.

“Who told them we are unhappy with their performance?”, the disgruntled lawmaker quizzed.
