Ghana’s exports of Desiccated Coconut to the rest of the globe increased by 249% in value in 2021 compared to the previous year.
According to the Ghana Exports Promotion Center (GEPA), exports amounted at $21.985 million in 2021 compared to $6.3 million in 2020 and $3.8 million in 2019.
This placed the country ninth in worldwide Desiccated Coconut exports.
Ghana’s export revenues from Desiccated Coconut increased by 45% between 2017 and 2021.
The Dominican Republic is Ghana’s largest market for coconut.
With a market share of 79%, the Dominican Republic was Ghana’s largest market for Desiccated Coconut exports in 2021.
In 2021, the Dominican Republic imported $29.31 million in Desiccated Coconut from all over the world.
Ghana (59.2%), Guyana (32.6%), Cote d’Ivoire (4.6%), Indonesia (1.5%), and Vietnam (0.9%) were its biggest suppliers.
Dominican Republic’s Desiccated Coconut imports from Ghana account for 59.2% of the total Desiccated Coconut imported by Dominican Republic from across the world.
According to GEPA, Ghana’s outstanding growth and dominant position in the Dominican market should be leveraged and utilized as a springboard for expansion into other Caribbean regions.
“With the current intervention by actors in the country with particular emphasis on GEPA’s supply expansion programs, export of coconut and coconut derivatives is expected to rise considerably
Guyana is Ghana’s biggest competitor in the Dominican Republic market”, it explained.
Guyana exported 32.6% of its Desiccated Coconut to the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican market received $1.35 million in Desiccated Coconut from Cote d’Ivoire.
The Dominican Republic (45%), Senegal (14.8%), Niger (12.7%), and Israel (8.9%) were among its market destinations.
In 2021, the Philippines, the world’s leading supplier of Desiccated Coconut, had shipments of $397 million. The United States of America (30.4%), the Netherlands (16.6%), and Canada (6.1%) were its top three imports.
Desiccated Coconut exports exceeded $1 billion in 2021, with an annual growth rate of 52% and an average growth rate of 7% from 2017 to 2021.
Philippines ($397 million), Indonesia ($235 million), Sri Lanka ($116 million), the Netherlands ($69 million), and Vietnam ($59 million) were the top five global exporters of Desiccated Coconut.
