The project lead for Ghana Britain Partnership for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (GB- PIE) at the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Desmond Omane Acheampong has called for the synergy between Academia and industry to be strengthened.
According to him, a strong collaboration between academia and industry will stimulate entrepreneurship in the country, thus leading to growth and development.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ATL FM NEWS on the sidelines of the last session of a 2-day Idea Series hosted by GB- PIE Prof. Omane Acheampong emphasised that, “the synergy between the industry and academia is very important. The academia generates the ideas and identify the problems. So, working with industry, we share these ideas with them because they have the money and the establishment. It is always difficult to move from academia to industry.There should be already established system there and by so doing, we can push entrepreneurship to the highest level we want”.

On his part, Chief Executive officer of Graydon LIoyd and a fellow at Durham University Business School in the United Kingdom, Robert J. Bell stressed the importance of Ghana being an entrepreneurial nation.
While, speaking in relation to Ghana’s agricultural sector, he indicates that there are vast opportunities in the sector that needs to be explored.
“What we need is more entrepreneurs driving businesses in Ghana and not just service businesses. We need to actually make things. So, manufacturing and foods that drive the brands of Ghana and tell the story of Ghana and that is agribusiness” he stressed.
The Idea Series, which commenced on May 9 brought together students, lecturers and industry players and placed emphasis on the fact that entrepreneurship is the way forward to addressing societal issues in the country.
