Four children drowned in Lake Volta in Konkoma, a Yeji neighborhood in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region.
Ibrahim Abdul Kadri, 8, Mubarik Aziz, 12, Aliu Nasiru Mayachi, 6, and Umaru Nasiru Mayachi, 11, all dead.
On Monday, February 28, 2022, the quartet was reported missing.
However, in an interview with Graphic Online, Pru East District Police Commander DSP Eric Awiadeam said that the children’s bodies were discovered in the lake on Tuesday.
According to DSP Awiadeam, Nashiru Mayachi and Philip Ngyemenko, Assemblyman of the Konkoma Electoral Area, provided the information to the police.
Following that, a team led by the complainants traveled to Konkoma, a community near the Volta Lake.
He said that when he arrived at the site, the corpses of the dead were discovered, lying in supine postures with blood seeping from their noses.
According to DSP Awiadeam, police investigated the corpses but discovered no signs of violence on them.
He said that authorities had recovered the bodies and had begun an investigation to determine what caused the four youngsters to drown in Volta Lake.
He further said that the bodies had been placed in the morgue of St Mathias Catholic Hospital in Yeji for preservation and autopsy.
