The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of results for the Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) for 2021.
The test was taken by 572,167 applicants, including 287,730 males and 284,437 females.
The Council said in a press statement on February 28 that the complete results of 46 applicants had been canceled for either sending mobile phones into the test venue or impersonating.
The Council further said that the subject results of 138 students had been canceled for either bringing in foreign materials into the examination hall or conspiring with other candidates.
Meanwhile, the subject results of 148 candidates and the overall results of 109 candidates have been withheld until the completion of investigations into their suspected misconduct cases.
“The scripts of candidates from 24 schools in certain subjects are undergoing scrutiny. The withheld results of candidates may be canceled or released based on the outcome of investigations,” portions of the statement stated.
Out of the total number of applicants who took the test, 61 had visual impairment and 321 had hearing impairment. In addition, 86 individuals required additional examination owing to medical issues.
According to the Council, the overall number of candidates for last year climbed by 7.61 percent when compared to the total number of candidates for 2020, which is 531,707.
In all, 18,028 schools submitted candidates for the exam, which was held at 2,158 locations. Out of the total number of applicants who enrolled for the exams, 7,315 (or 1.28 percent) were absent.
The Council warned all stakeholders to be careful of con artists who claim to improve outcomes in exchange for a fee.
Candidates may see their results online at www.waecgh.org or wait for the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education to distribute them to their respective schools.
