A letter cited by ATL FM indicates that the Board Chair of the Ghana Airport Company Limited has been mandated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo to make the necessary arrangement in terminating the appointment of the Managing Director of the Company, Yaw Kwakwa.

The letter dated 4th February, 2022 and signed by the Minister for Roads and Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah read in part “His Excellency the President of the Republic, per letter number OPS127/22/104 dated 31st January 2022, has directed that the appointment of Mr. Yaw Kwakwa as the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited be terminated.

It further said the necessary steps to give effect to the directive should be followed.

Yaw Kwakwa

Mr. Kwakwa succeeded Mr. John Dekyem Attafuah, who was removed from his post as Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited in 2019.

The late Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda, wrote a letter instructing him to resign and mailed it to the Board Chairman.

John Dekyem Attafuah’s, was then ordered to give over to his deputy, Yaw Kwakwa, who was anticipated to operate in the interim until a meaningful appointment of a new Managing Director was made.

This came after Dekyem Attafuah was accused of obstructing government projects inside the Ghana Airports Company and of being allegedly despotic in his administration of the critical state enterprise.

Speculations

In spite of the letter’s lack of explanation, it is widely assumed that the current McDan aviation dispute is to blamed for his departure.

Private jet operations at the Kotoka International Airport’s Terminal 1 have been halted by McDan Aviation until the company’s management meets with the Ghana Airports Company Limited to resolve operational issues.

The GACL has barred McDan Aviation from conducting its private jet services at Kotoka International Airport Terminal 1 indefinitely in a letter dated January 31, 2022. (KIA).

Twitter Trend

Francis Abban writes” Yaw Kwakwa says he’s unaware of his dismissal. “I’m not aware I’ve been sacked. When we get there we will cross it”. This morning he has taken the transport committee to the private jet terminal. Seems board chair @AdomOtchere is yet to communicate @NAkufoAddo wish 5 days on.
