The National Executive Committee of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) is expected to meet today Friday, February 4, 2022, to discuss the way forward following the High Court order to settle their strike issues outside court.
The Labour Court 1 Division of the High Court yesterday urged the National Labour Commission (NLC) to settle its impasse with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) out of court.
The presiding judge, Justice Frank Rockson Aboadwe, gave the parties up to Thursday, February 10, 2022, to report back on the progress of the out-of-court settlement.
NLC was in court seeking enforcement of its orders defied by public university teachers in the country.
NLC earlier directed UTAG to call off its strike, which is in its fourth week, but this directive was not adhered to.
The teachers had defied the NLC’s order while insisting on a resolution of their demands.
In a letter sighted by ATLFMNEWS, the national labour commission has invited government and UTAG to a meeting on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 11:00 am.
The meeting is in pursuant to the directive by the High Court regarding the out-of-court settlement on the strike action.
The NLC was very certain that it was going to win the case. Meanwhile, the universities risk closure if the strike continues further.
Meanwhile, the president of the University of Ghana UTAG Chapter, Dr Samuel Nkumban says UTAG is willing to settle the case out of court if they see a positive reaction from the government to address their problems.
