The Central regional office of the Ghana National Fire Service has cautioned Ghanaians to keep safe as the Christmas and New Year festivities approach.
The service indicates that there are several fire risks and road accidents involved in such festivities thus all individuals should be cautious.
The Regional Fire Commander, ACFO 1 John Amalai Amartey urged especially business owners to ensure emergency exits are readily accessible to avoid any causalities.
“We are advising all owners of such premises to ensure there are emergency exits as well as fire extinguishers in their correct shape. This should be readily available, so that when there is any incident they can be used to just deal with the situation” he said.
He also urged the people of the central region to practice safety measures and remember to make their safety a topmost priority during the season.
He shared some safety tips individuals can observe to avoid danger and said “do not use fire cracks this time and in case you want to use bonfires in your celebration, please whether you are an individual or a group of persons know that before you do that activity, you need to inform Ghana fire service 24 hours before the commencement.”
Delivering his Christmas and end-of-year message, ACFO 1 John Amalai Amartey extended seasonal greetings on behalf of the chief fire officer as well as the personnel of the regional command and wished the chiefs and people of the region an incident-free yuletide.
