A popular musician in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Delcato Idengo, has been arrested by police after being accused of inciting violence against the security forces in the volatile northeast.
The musician was arrested on Sunday in the northeastern city of Butembo.
His fans held a protest to demand his release.
Police said Idengo would be charged with inciting violence against the police and military.
He has not yet appeared in court.
The musician’s songs are often critical of the authorities, especially their inability to end rampant insecurity in eastern DR Congo. He previously accused the police of doing nothing to try to stop the violence.
