The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has taken a swipe at those who questioned the promises he made to Ghanaians in the run-up to the 2021 elections.
Such people, he claims, have been embarrassed since he has mostly kept his promises.
“My critics are being shamed one after the other. They said we won’t be able to deliver the One District One Factory promise but now everywhere I visit, I see some of the factories working. When I said I was bringing the Free Senior High School policy, they rejected it outrightly, saying it wasn’t possible, but it has come to stay.”
On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, he made the statement while commissioning a shoe factory in Akropong as part of his visit to the Eastern Region.
Prior to the 2016 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo, the then-presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), made a number of promises, including establishing a free Senior High School policy, establishing factories in every district, introducing ambulances in every constituency, and allocating one million dollars to each constituency, among others.
At the time, officials from the National Democratic Congress punched holes in the pledges, saying they were unrealistic.
President Akufo-Addo, who is in his second term, stated that evidence abounds to back up his pledges.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region recently said that the president should not congratulate himself on the shoulder for developments in the region because he has done too little for the people to deserve any recognition.
Its Regional Secretary, Kwame Zu, told Eyewitness News that years after the Akufo-Addo administration entered office, all it has been doing is sod-cutting ceremonies, in contrast to the huge projects done by the previous Mahama administration.
“It is surprising to state with a shock that five years into the government of President Akufo-Addo, he is still cutting sods in the Ashanti Region. So I do not know which fresh breath President Akufo-Addo has gone to breathe into the Ashanti Region.”
