On Wednesday, July 21, 2021, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is scheduled to inform Parliament on the expense of President Akufo-recent Addo’s travels to Europe and South Africa.
Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Member of Parliament for North Tongu, revealed this when he asked two urgent questions about the use of a private aircraft for the visits.
Mr. Ablakwa stated in Parliament last week, “I hope the Finance Minister would be honest, straightforward, and unimpeachably genuine with the House after the rigmarole.”
Mr. Ofori-Atta will also be asked to respond to a question from Paul Twum-Barimah, the MP for Dormaa East, on the cost of all charter flights used by former President John Mahama between 2013 and 2016.
On June 1, the first portion of Ablakwa’s inquiry, about the presidential jet’s airworthiness, was addressed by Dominic Nitiwul, Minister of Defence.
Mr. Ofori-Atta was supposed to account for the expense on the same day, but Mr. Ablakwa says that was not possible since the Minister had sought additional time to provide the House with information on the president’s travels.
The question was later removed from the Parliamentary Business Statement, despite the fact that the Minister had about two weeks to prepare his response.
Mr. Ablakwa was enraged by the turn of events and vowed to call for a vote of censure against Mr. Ofori-Atta if he continued to postpone his presence before the House to present his financial statements.
He also claimed that the House Majority was protecting the Finance Minister from answering his question.
