The Member of Parliament for the Cape Coast North Constituency, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku has called on the general public to get involved in the ongoing population and housing census.
He said the exercise is an integral aspect of the country’s development and as such should be taken seriously adding that it goes beyond political affiliations.
Speaking to the press after a team of census officials from the Central Region visited him at his residence to have him counted, Dr. Minath Nyarko said Census is a governmental initiative and regardless of whichever party is in power, it just falls on each individual’s initiative to ensure that it is done.
“I urge all others who are in other political parties to desist from saying that they will not be counted,” he stressed.
He also noted that the census is important for decision making especially in allocating resources to specific regions, districts and constituencies.
“Let’s do this work well, let us know our number and the government can give us what is required of every constituency or every region” he said.
Relatedly, in a meeting with some census officers in the Central Region, the Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II entreated the inhabitants of Cape Coast avail themselves for the enumeration.
He said “If the government does not know the people in Cape Coast, it will come a time when the government is planning developmental programs in the country, and because you did not take active part in this exercise, the benefits which were going to be derived by the people of Cape Coast will be taken elsewhere and I don’t think any of us want that to happen”
He therefore urged residents in Cape Coast to courteous to the census officials and assist them in their work.
Here in Cape Coast, MP for the Cape Coast North Constituency, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, the Omanhene of Oguaa traditional area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II and the Central Regional Minister Mrs Justina Marigold Assan are among the first people to be enumerated.
Addressing the media after she was counted, the Central Regional Minister, Mrs Justina Marigold commended the statistical service for their swift operation and urged all individuals within the region to avail themselves to get counted.
