The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) is hopeful that the issues stated in its petition to Parliament would be resolved shortly.
The Association’s leadership met with the Health Committee of Parliament last week and then presented documentation to back up their requests and arguments in the petition.
Dr. Abu Abudu Rahamani, the National President of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, told Citi News that the Ministry of Health is scheduled to present supporting papers to the committee this week to help in its work.
“After meeting with Parliament last week, we were supposed to give them with the appropriate paperwork to aid our presentation to them.”
“So we’ve submitted them all the necessary paperwork, and we’re expecting the Ministry of Health to meet with the committee this week and give their presentation, and then the Chairman of the Committee will give us instructions on what to do next,” says the committee chairman.
The association called off its nearly two-week old strike on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
Following a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, which vowed to address their concerns, the decision was made.
On Thursday, May 20, 2021, members of the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital went on strike to protest the hospital’s decision to maintain two medical experts in critical positions at the facility’s Laboratory Services Directorate.
