As part of activities to celebrate a year of possibilities, Absa Bank Ghana has supported the St. Mary’s Girls Catholic primary school in the Cape Coast metropolis with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and a 10,000-litre water tank to help improve the health protocols in defeating COVID-19.
At a ceremony to present the items to the school, head of Marketing and Communication for ABSA Bank, Cyril Nai said the intervention demonstrates the bank’s commitment to making impact in communities where the bank operates.
“This is part of our one year of possibilities. As we turned a year, we took into consideration what we have done in the past and because of our passion for education, we decided to do something for our educational institutions to support them. We have been supporting education in various ways for the past three years,” he added.
Speaking in an interview with ATL FM, he said the bank will continue to be a force to reckon on especially in these challenging times by providing support to alleviate the burden the pandemic has placed on many, especially the
A Circuit Supervisor at the Cape Coast Metro Directorate of Education, Betty Vanderpuye who received the items on behalf of the school and the Metro Education Unit expressed gratitude to the Bank and called on other stakeholders in the education sector to help solve the problems some schools are facing.
“We need good education in this country and the government is doing its part to ensure that. However, we know the government cannot do it all so other stakeholders in education must also come on board to help,” he noted.
Expressing her gratitude to ABSA bank she said, “I am very happy you chose a girls’ school and we think that this donation will leave imprints in the hearts of the children. We really appreciate your kind gesture and we hope that wherever you go, you will leave landmarks and traces. These things even encourage some of us to know that we have to reach out to society.”
