Nana Asante Bediatuo, the Secretary to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has categorically disputed charges made by an anonymous woman in a now-viral recording that he attended a meeting with her and others in order to sell the Art Centre, a government-owned facility.
According to him, no such meeting on the issue has taken place between him and anybody else.
As a result, Mr. Asante Bediatuo has urged the public to ignore the charge and treat it with “the disdain it deserves.”
He further stated that he was unaware of any intentions to sell the Art Centre and that if this were true, he did not have the power to lead such a move.
In an audio clip circulating on social media, an unidentified woman claims to have obtained information indicating that the President intended to sell the Art Centre.
She is also heard claiming that she went to see Mr. Asante Bediatuo with certain chiefs in order to amend the plans, but Mr. Bediatuo humiliated them.
The lady referred to Asante Bediatuo as the President’s spokesman, despite the fact that her narration in the 2 minutes 5 seconds audio was incoherent.
She also stated that Mr. Bediatuo informed them the Art Centre was for sale for 500 million cedis, although she didn’t clarify if the price was in cedis or dollars.
Mr. Bediatuo has categorically denied all of the mysterious woman’s charges. Those assertions, he claims, are “outright and plain falsehoods.”
“I would want to state unequivocally that I have never met this anonymous, unidentifiable woman, nor the elders or chiefs she claims to have brought to meet with me. It’s worth noting that she doesn’t reveal any specifics about the claimed meeting.”
“She does not provide the date of the claimed meeting, the location of the gathering, or the names of the elders and chiefs who accompanied her to the meeting. That’s because the ostensibly scheduled meeting never happened, at least not with me. I am the President’s Secretary, not the President’s spokesman, as is well known.”
Mr. Asante Bediatuo went on to say that the tape was made to make him seem bad as a senior government employee.
“Normally, I would not respond to such bogus charges in order to give them space in the media. Some individuals, however, may trust fraudulent claims given in this manner.”
“I believe it is important to issue this statement since the claims contained in the audio tape include no iota of truth, are complete fabrications, and are spiteful, with the only intent of courting public discontent for myself as a senior government official.”
