Shakul Samed, a member of Ghana’s national amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, has qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, which will take place later this year.
Shakul, a Light Heavyweight (75-81kg), qualified based on the Boxing Task Force (BTF) rankings, which ranked him 10th in the world and 3rd in Africa in February 2021.
Shakul has joined Flyweight Sulemanu Tetteh and Featherweight Samuel Takyi in qualifying for the Olympic Games, taking the overall number of qualified boxers to three.

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics Games, which were expected to be held last July to August 2020, have been rescheduled for July to August 2021.
Shakul is the younger brother of professional boxers Samir and Issah Bastir, who were both part of the Black Bombers at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Shakul is the SWAG Amateur Boxer for 2019, having won the only boxing medal at the Rabat African Games in Casablanca, Morocco, in August 2019.
The Black Bombers are Ghana’s most active Olympic team, having won three of the country’s four medals at the world’s greatest sporting event.
