The Ghana Association of Private Schools -GNAPS is calling on government to first consider private schools in the distribution of the yet to be launched government stimulus package from the NBSSI.

Disbursement of the fund is expected to start from May 25, after applicants meet the requirements and eligibility criteria by the National Board for Small Scale Enterprises (NBSSI), the agency with oversight responsibility over the micro small and medium enterprise.
The fund, categorised in Anidaso and Adom (special) loans, is to provide between GHȼ1,000 and GHȼ150,000 with five per cent interest rates to businesses under the MSME space.
Speaking with the media ahead of the disbursement, the Public Relations Officer of the association Mr. Kyei Baffour noted that due to the Covid 19 which has led to the shutdown of all schools, private schools especially, have been severely affected since they rely mostly on payments of school fees.

He said the closure has forced many private schools to lay off their staff, since they are unable to pay them for some months now.
He believes this would help sustain the schools within this period adding that it could help them pay their staff their arrears and also roll out some online tuition for their students.

Meanwhile the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Vincent Assifuah says the Ghana Education Service is collaborating with all relevant stakeholders in the education sector to see how things could be restored to normalcy when the ban on social gathering is lifted.
According to him NAGRAT, GNAT, CHASS and other educational institutions have been given up to May 19, 2020 to provide GES and the Ministry of Education, proposals on how best the educational sector can survive in the midst of the pandemic should the ban on social gatherings be lifted.
