The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) urged the parties to accept the verdict in the election petition.
It was stated in a statement that this will “promote national unity and peaceful coexistence.”
“The ruling, which is another milestone in the annals of Ghana’s history, is a further test of our constitutional democracy. With this verdict, Ghana has won and we should work together to build the nation.”
The Commission commended former President John Mahama, the plaintiff, and his team for upholding the rule of law through the use of the judicial system to pursue redress.
Mr. Mahama filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to annul the election results and order a re-run on the grounds of suspected irregularities.
He claimed that neither he nor President Akufo-Addo had a strong majority due to the failure of the Techiman South Constituency to make a provisional declaration of results by the Electoral Commission (EC).

But the Supreme Court upheld the victory of President Akufo-Addo in the presidential election of December 2020 following the dismissal of the election petition.
Following this, the NCCE urged all political parties “to call on their members and supporters to refrain from violent actions.”
“Their communicators must be decorous and considerate in their statements and comments about the decision in order not to denigrate the courts and debase the judiciary.”
Reacting to the ruling, which Mr. Mahama said he disagreed with, the National Democratic Congress of the Flagbearer stressed his dissatisfaction at the decision of the Supreme Court not to allow the cross-examination of the President of the EC, Jean Mensa.
“Whatever the reason for not allowing Mrs. Mensa to testify or answer questions, it leaves a shameful stain not only on our system of justice, but also on the electoral system of our country,” he said.
“Everything has been done in this trial to keep the Commission from paying for people in whose name they hold office,” the former President said.
In spite of the objections, Mr. Mahama said that his side would abide by the decision.
“We will be law-abiding and do nothing to jeopardize the security of the country,” he said.
