After a three-week recess, Parliament will resume sitting today, Tuesday, March 2, 2021. The speaker of parliament, Alan Bagbin suspended all political operations after 17 Members of Parliament (MPs) and over 150 staff were tested positive for COVID-19.
Despite the House’s suspension, the Appointments Committee was allowed to continue operating and has vetted more than 30 ministerial nominees. Members and staff have been tested once again ahead of the resumption of activities in the house.
The vetting committee will resume evaluating candidates for ministerial positions this afternoon. The Minister-designate for Bono East region, Adu Gyan, the Minister-designate for Bono region, Justina Owusu Banahene, and the Minister-designate for Ashanti region, Simon Osei Mensah are to be vetted.

Meanwhile, the NDC representatives of the Committee overwhelmingly refused the consent of a range of appointed ministers.
These nominees are Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister-designate for Information; Hawa Koomson, Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture; and Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture.
In addition to the three candidates that the NDC representatives of the committee have voted not to accept, there are a number others whose decisions are yet to be made regarding whether to approve or refuse them.
